Our Beliefs

Clear, honest answers about what Jehovah's Witnesses believe — drawn directly from the Bible.

What We Believe

Core Biblical Beliefs

Our beliefs are not based on tradition or human philosophy, but on what the Bible actually says — studied carefully and applied honestly.

Jehovah Is the One True God

We believe that Jehovah is the one Almighty God — the Creator of the universe. His name, Jehovah, appears thousands of times in the original Bible text. He is a personal God who hears prayer, cares for people, and has a defined purpose for humanity. (Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 42:8)

Jesus Christ Is God's Son

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Messiah — not equal to God but the greatest of God's creation. Jesus gave his life as a ransom sacrifice for humanity, making forgiveness and eternal life possible. (John 3:16; 1 Timothy 2:5, 6)

The Bible Is God's Inspired Word

All 66 books of the Bible are inspired by God and contain the guidance humanity needs for life and worship. We study the Bible deeply and base all our beliefs and conduct on what it says. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17)

God's Kingdom Is a Real Government

God's Kingdom is a heavenly government with Jesus Christ as King. It will soon replace all human governments and transform the earth into a paradise — just as described in the Lord's Prayer. (Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:9, 10)

The Dead Are Not Conscious

The Bible teaches that the dead are in a state of unconsciousness, like a deep sleep. There is no immortal soul that survives death apart from the body. Our hope rests in the resurrection — God's promise to bring back the dead. (Ecclesiastes 9:5; John 5:28, 29)

A Paradise Earth Awaits

God's original purpose was for humans to live forever in a paradise on earth. That purpose has not changed. The Bible promises that the righteous will inherit the earth — free from war, disease, and death. (Psalm 37:11; Revelation 21:3, 4)

The Resurrection Is a Certainty

Billions of people who have died will be resurrected and given the opportunity to learn about God and choose life. This resurrection hope is a central and joyful part of what we believe. (Acts 24:15; John 11:25)

Prayer Reaches God Directly

Anyone can approach Jehovah God directly in prayer, without the need for a human intermediary. God listens, responds, and values every sincere prayer offered in Jesus' name. (Psalm 65:2; 1 John 5:14)

Christian Morality Applies Today

Biblical moral standards — honesty, fidelity, sobriety, kindness, and respect — are not outdated ideals but practical principles that lead to happier, more stable lives for individuals and families. We strive to apply these standards in every area of life.

"Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them."

Matthew 5:3
